Components tested included the stock intake, a "ghetto" style intake, the F-5 Performance V2 short ram intake, the F-5 Performance V3 short ram intake, the manifold tuning valve addition to my car, the stock manual throttle body, the stock automatic throttle body, a throttle body bored out by The FastMan, and the infamous eRAM Electric Supercharger. All runs shown on this page are linked to larger standalone runs.
The following dyno runs are by themselves. They are not compared to each other. For run composites that show comparison between certain tested parts, scroll down.
Bored Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V3 Intake, MTV in auto Maximum Power: 176.12 HP Maximum Torque: 171.24 ft-lbf |
Stock Manual Throttle Body, Ghetto Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 175.84 HP Maximum Torque: 169.73 ft-lbf |
Stock Manual Throttle Body, Stock Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 176.61 HP Maximum Torque: 169.46 ft-lbf |
Stock Manual Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V2 Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 177.06 HP Maximum Torque: 171.31 ft-lbf |
Stock Manual Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V3 Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 174.73 HP Maximum Torque: 167.99 ft-lbf |
Stock Automatic Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V3 Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 178.02 HP Maximum Torque: 169.59 ft-lbf |
Stock Automatic Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V3 Intake, MTV shut Maximum Power: 157.07 HP Maximum Torque: 169.38 ft-lbf |
Stock Automatic Throttle Body, eRAM Turned Off, MTV open Maximum Power: 178.50 HP Maximum Torque: 170.38 ft-lbf |
Stock Automatic Throttle Body, eRAM Activated, MTV open Maximum Power: 178.91 HP Maximum Torque: 171.68 ft-lbf |
Bored Throttle Body, F-5 Performance V3 Intake, MTV open Maximum Power: 177.68 HP Maximum Torque: 170.02 ft-lbf |
The following dyno runs are comparisons of different intakes. The stock automatic throttle body was installed for these runs, and the manifold tuning valve was left open.
Stock Intake vs. Ghetto Intake Maximum Power: Stock, 176.61 HP (0.77 HP) Maximum Torque: Ghetto, 169.73 ft-lbf (+0.27 ft-lbf) |
Stock Intake vs. F-5 Performance V2 Intake Maximum Power: F-5 Performance V2, 177.06 HP (+0.45 HP) Maximum Torque: F-5 Performance V2, 171.31 ft-lbf (+1.85 ft-lbf) |
Stock Intake vs. F-5 Performance V3 Intake Maximum Power: Stock, 176.61 HP (+1.88 HP) Maximum Torque: Stock, 169.46 ft-lbf (+ 1.47 ft-lbf) |
F-5 Performance V2 Intake vs. F-5 Performance V3 Intake Maximum Power: F-5 Performance V2, 177.06 HP (+2.33 HP) Maximum Torque: F-5 Performance V2, 171.31 ft-lbf (+3.32 ft-lbf) |
The following dyno runs are comparisons of different throttle bodies. The F-5 Performance V3 short ram intake was installed for these runs, and the manifold tuning valve was left open.
Stock Manual Throttle Body vs. Stock Automatic Throttle Body Maximum Power: Automatic, 178.02 HP (+3.29 HP) Maximum Torque: Automatic, 169.59 ft-lbf (+1.60 ft-lbf) |
Stock Manual Throttle Body vs. Bored Throttle Body Maximum Power: Bored, 177.68 HP (+2.95 HP) Maximum Torque: Bored, 170.02 ft-lbf (+2.03 ft-lbf) |
Stock Automatic Throttle Body vs. Bored Throttle Body Maximum Power: Automatic, 178.02 HP (+0.34 HP) Maximum Torque: Bored, 170.02 ft-lbf (+0.43 ft-lbf) |
The following dyno runs are comparisons of the manifold tuning valve when open, and when shut. For all runs here, the F-5 Performance V3 short ram intake was installed. For the first comparison, the stock automatic throttle was installed. For the second comparison, the bored throttle body was installed.
Keep in mind that the dyno graph for the shut MTV shows higher torque generation below and up to about 4300 RPM.
MTV Open vs. MTV shut Maximum Power: MTV open, 178.02 HP (+20.95 HP) Maximum Torque: MTV open, 168.59 ft-lbf (+0.21 ft-lbf) |
MTV Open vs. MTV in Automatic Maximum Power: MTV Open, 177.68 HP (+1.56 HP) Maximum Torque: MTV in Automatic, 171.24 ft-lbf (+1.22 ft-lbf) |
The following dyno runs are comparisons of the eRam Electric Supercharger. For all runs, the stock automatic throttle body was installed, and the manifold tuning valve was left open. For the e-Ram runs, no filter was used; the eRam was connected directly to the throttle body. For the non-eRam run, the F-5 Performance V3 short ram intake was installed.
The eRam is advertised to give up to 1 psig of boost. For that boost figure, I would expect a gain of around 12 HP and 11 ft-lbf of torque. The eRam is also supposed to consume 40 amps at 14 VDC. This is about 560 watts, or about 0.75 HP drag that the alternator would place on the engine to power the eRam. The real-world results are pitifully smaller than the estimated gains. The minimal gains shown by the eRam do not warrant the $300 that it costs.
F-5 Performance V3 Intake vs. eRam Turned Off Maximum Power: eRam, 178.50 HP (+0.48 HP) Maximum Torque: eRam, 170.38 ft-lbf (+0.79 ft-lbf) |
F-5 Performance V3 Intake vs. eRam Activated Maximum Power: eRam, 178.91 HP (+0.89 HP) Maximum Torque: eRam, 171.68 ft-lbf (+2.09 ft-lbf) |
eRam Turned Off vs. eRam Activated Maximum Power: eRam Activated, 178.91 HP (0.41 HP) Maximum Torque: eRam Activated, 171.68 ft-lbf (1.30 ft-lbf) |
